Recovery codes

What they are

When MFA turns on, you get 10 recovery codes, like abcde-fghij. Each one signs you in once, in place of a code from your app. They're shown only once: select Download or Print, and keep them away from your phone.

Sign in with a recovery code

1. After your password, select Use a recovery code instead.
2. Enter one code and select Verify.
3. On the You signed in with a recovery code page, select Generate new recovery codes and save the new set.

Lost your phone

1. Sign in with a recovery code.
2. On the You signed in with a recovery code page, select Generate new recovery codes and save them.
3. On the MFA page, select Remove next to the lost phone, then add your new one.

No codes left? Ask a staff member to reset your MFA.

New codes

The MFA page shows how many codes are unused. On that page, Generate new codes gives you a fresh set; your old codes stop working.
